We are happy to announce that our Stratosphere Laboratory was accepted as a mentor organization for a second year in the Google Summer of Code 2024!
Since 2005, the Google Summer of Code program has connected 20,000+ contributors from 116 countries with 850+ open-source organizations. The Stratosphere Laboratory is honored to join the list of organizations in the initiative among the many renowned organizations, which include Julia Programming Language, KubeFlow, and Debian.
The program is open to all students world-wide who are passionate about coding. Each organization will accept proposals, which will be evaluated to select the best. Over the course of 12 weeks, our team will mentor the selected students to work on the projects, helping them improve their skills and contribute to the selected projects. Students will be evaluated twice in the 12 weeks, and upon successful evaluation, they qualify to receive the stipend from Google. The GSoC program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain a unique understanding and experience in real-world software development and teamwork.
Our Projects
For GSoC 2024, we are accepting applications to work on two core projects:
Slips: a free software behavioral Python intrusion prevention system (IDS/IPS) that uses machine learning to detect malicious behaviors in the network traffic. [List of Ideas] [GitHub]
AI VPN: A Free-Software AI-Powered Network Forensics Tool [List of Ideas] [GitHub]
Our Mentors
This year we have four mentors who will work alongside the selected students in the selected projects. These four members of our Stratosphere Laboratory are currently working in the projects and on similar topics, which will ensure they are ready to mentor and guide you every step of the way.
How to apply to work with us
Students are invited to read our Google Summer of Code Guide and join our Discord channel here. The timeline of the projects will always follow the official timeline listed on the GSoC website. More information can be found at Google Summer of Code.
